Journal of Textile Science & Fashion Technology This paper presents pedagogical insight gained from instructing ‘fundamentals of textiles’, ‘textile testing and analysis’ and ‘sustainability in fashion’ to students of fashion merchandising. The challenge for any teacher is to capture student interest and to keep students interested in the topic. The paper makes an argument that study of textiles becomes valuable to students when they become aware of textiles being a confluence of science, technology, art, culture and sustainability. Saturated Fatty Acids Derivatives as Assistants Materials for Textile Processes

Image
Textile Science and Fashion Technology Many auxiliaries have been used in textile industries in dry or wet processes. One of the important based materials is fatty acids and its derivatives. The present work aims at preparing some textile auxiliaries based on saturated fatty acids. Six different materials were used to react with each fatty acid. Produced materials have been characterised using FT-IR, HLB and cloud point. Based on the HLB values, produced materials have been used as softeners or as O/W emulsifiers (printing paste). Treated fabrics with softeners show a very good physical and mechanical properties and printed fabrics with prepared pastes shows a good printing paste with good prints characteristics (colour strength and colour fastness). Digital Printing Technology in University Experiential Learning Classes

Image
Textile Science and Fashion Technology Experiential learning-that is, hands-on learning or learning by doing-has long been known as one of the best ways for students to learn [1]. By applying their theoretical knowledge in real-life situations, students can gain a concrete understanding of complex ideas. When students study abstract topics such as visual design, it’s even more important for instructors to find ways to teach experientially. Measuring and describing the impacts of experiential learning activities helps university professors understand which of their practical activities such as laboratory assignments and practicums are most effective, but, more importantly, evaluating teaching methods helps explain why some methods are more effective and how learning takes place in various practical experiences [2]. Since well before the American education philosopher John Dewey wrote about the value of educational pragmatism in the early 1900s, college faculty have been successfull...

This software can be a great asset to university apparel students in learning the process of apparel production from the manufacturing facility to the retail store. When making production decisions for supply chain management, there are two requirements that are necessary: skills and competencies [1]. University curricula provide students the skill knowledge of supply chain management, but competency can only be understood through experiential learning. Experiential learn...
